Leland shares space with The Martha
As a New Yorker with a food blog, I sometimes get invited to food things happening around town, and I try my best to attend if they’re at all interesting. When I was invited to watch Martha Stewart interview Jean-Georges Vongerichten on Sirius Radio tonight, I sent a breathless RSVP. Two, actually, in case the first one didn’t take. I wouldn’t miss a chance to bask in the Martha glow for anything.
And bask we all did. She looks gorgeous.
This was the first recording of At Martha’s Table, a radio program where Martha interviews famous chefs about their background and careers. Hors d’oeuvre were provided by Vong, and most of them were lovely (all, in fact, except the purses of something bitter and topped with gold leaf, pictured below; even gold couldn’t save it). Guests started showing up at 6, and we all had a chance to meet and mingle while we waited for her entrance. I got to know the couple behind Nosheteria, and I found I had plenty in common with one of The Kitchen’s principal writers.
Martha’s companies were well represented, and I met all variety of communications people and editors. It was great fun to be in a room full of people with such similar interests. Hostess and interviewee aside, this gathering wasn’t about celebrity chefs and restaurants—it was about cooking and eating. Everyone I met was curious about this blog, and about food blogs in general.
I didn’t have a chance to meet the woman herself, but what would I have said? I suppose I would have just said thank you, and good luck with your radio show!

Very cool. I’m something of a Martha fan – not as in swoon, more as in respect. How was the interview itself? Do you know if there’s somewhere on the internet to listen to it?
i am so so jealous…
How wonderful!!
Pretty cool. It’s not every day you get to listen to someone who was convicted of violating SEC rules talk about food! :)
As far as I could tell on the Sirius website, the interview is not available online. From what I heard of it (about ten minutes), it was just Martha asking JGV about his various restaurants. Perfectly pleasant, but nothing earth-shattering.
I guess attending this means you didn’t watch the Lost grand finale… Was it worth it?
I can attest, the purse hors d’oeuvres were definitely not the best part of the evening. But it was very nice to meet you Leland.
Mommy: we can record TV in these crazy modern times. And I’m pretty sad about Charlie.
