Time for a pedestrian protest?
I’m sure whatever’s got the NYUers excited this week is real important, but my biggest gripe about life in Manhattan has always been the cruel and illogical subjugation of pedestrian residents to drivers from who-cares-where. The law’s usually on our side, but the potential to kill has more immediate authority. That’s why the only way to fix recreational out-of-island drivers, I’m convinced, is to ban all of them.
Gothamist reports that a carful of men attacked a pedestrian after he tapped the hood of their car that was protruding into the crosswalk. I do this myself all the time, though I curtail the urge when the car appears to be full of burly garbage men.
I’m not sure the incident would have gotten any attention if it weren’t potentially a gay hate crime, and that’s just the problem with hate crime laws. Chasing down someone and beating him up for tapping your integra is bad, even if he’s not a bartender at a gay bar and you aren’t screaming “faggot!”
p.s. This supports a pet theory of MrLittlePants : Christopher Street is just plain ghetto.
