This is the first song / on our new albumThis is the first song / on our new album

Our nerdy counterpart here at technically.us—so nerdy, he has a numeral in his nick—has been working on some new weblog software. When we saw it, we got really jealous and demanded it for this weblog too.

The first thing you’ll notice is our ostentatious use of the typeface Fling. Martha probably thinks she owns that shit (and yes of course we first saw it in Blueprint), but in fact anyone can buy it for $39 at Linotype. So there.

Blueprint’s site, we notice, uses sIFR to display headlines an a particular typeface but doesn’t use it for Fling. Perhaps that’s because sIFR requires you to distribute the font file in a Flash movie (every headline is a Flash movie—egads!), in defiance of Fling’s license. Looks like somebody doesn’t want to go back to the big house. (Whereas, our type is generated on a server we’ve solemnly designated one of our five licensed Fling computers.)

There’s no telling what crazy nerd wrote that last paragraph, but City Slicking is happy to have these pretty looking and gay-as-hell headlines, however they’re produced. Another thing we can do now is post short notes to the sidebar, separate from our main content. We hope this helps with our compulsion to not post anything unless it’s lengthy, overwrought, and somehow way more important to us than the rest of the world. Basically, we hope to echo one or two interesting Gawker items a day. (I know, big dreams!)

Also, we’re capital ‘S’ now. And we’re fierce. Deal with it.
